OCT 22 - Psalm 71:14-18
V. HOPE THAT DEFIES CIRCUMSTANCES
Praise in the Midst of Crisis
Even as enemies plot, you will keep on hoping for God’s help and praise Him
more and more. This isn’t denial. It’s not pretending the danger isn’t real.
It’s a deliberate choice to orient your heart toward God’s character rather
than toward your circumstances.
This is the posture of mature faith. You’ve lived long enough to know that
circumstances change. You’ve trusted long enough to know that God’s character
doesn’t. So when everything around you suggests abandonment, you choose to
remember that God alone is your hope.
The psalmist doesn’t say, “I will praise God when this is over.” He says, “I
will praise God while this is happening.” That’s the
difference between faith and wishful thinking.
Questions:
What would it mean to praise God not because your circumstances
have changed, but because His character hasn’t?
VI. WITNESS ACROSS GENERATIONS
A Message for Those Who Come After
God has taught you from your earliest childhood, and you constantly tell others
about the wonderful things He does. Your testimony isn’t finished. Even now,
old and gray, you ask God not to abandon you so you can proclaim His power to
the new generation and His mighty miracles to all who come after.
This is the final gift of a long life of faith—the ability to say to younger
people: “I have seen God’s faithfulness for decades. I have watched Him show
up. I have experienced His rescue. And I’m telling you: He is trustworthy.”
Your story matters not because it’s finished, but because it’s still being
written. Every chapter you add—every crisis you survive, every doubt you
overcome, every moment you choose trust—becomes part of the testimony you leave
behind.
Questions:
What would you want the next generation to know about God based on your experience? How can you tell that story?
Verse 14 speaks of hoping "continually" and praising God "yet more and more." What practical habits help cultivate a growing, resilient hope when circumstances remain unchanged?
Verse 18 emphasizes sharing God's power with "another generation." Who are the younger generations in your life (family, church, workplace), and how can you intentionally share God's faithfulness with them?
What are the key truths or experiences with God that you feel most passionate about passing down to those coming after you?
